Cementation is a thermochemical treatment consists in making carbon superficially penetrate into a mild steel, in order to transform it on the surface into a highly carburized steel capable of receiving a hardening quenching.

After quenching, in addition to a high surface hardness, the case-hardening provides wear resistance and fatigue resistance (thanks to the unchanged core hardness).

USAGE TIPS :

These granules are ideally used for case cementation in a furnace. The optimum cementation depth varies from 0.1 to 0.3 mm. Count 0.15 mm at 900 ° C / hour. You can work at a higher temperature and save time.

The parts must not touch each other, but a distance of 10 mm is sufficient. Do not pack the granules, but simply shake the crates. The cover must be waterproof.

THERMAL TREATMENT AFTER CEMENTATION:

Direct quenching can be carried out after carburizing. After quenching, proceed to a stress relieving temperature around 180 ° C.
